About Whato

Buy-and-sell WhatsApp groups work, right up until they don’t. A sofa gets posted on Tuesday, four people ask if it’s still available on Thursday, and by the weekend the photo has scrolled so far up the thread that nobody can find it. The group has no search, no way to mark something sold, and no way to show a newcomer what’s currently for sale.

Whato gives that group a public page. Members post listings with photos and a price, buyers browse and search without needing to join anything, and every listing carries a status — available, sold, or unavailable — so nobody asks twice.

How it works

• A group organiser creates a marketplace and gets a short code and a group PIN to share with members.
• Members enter the PIN once to post, edit, and mark their own items sold. Browsing needs no PIN at all.
• Every listing has a share link built to preview properly in WhatsApp — the photo, the price, and whether it’s still available, right in the chat.

What Whato is not

Whato doesn’t handle payments, hold funds, ship anything, or verify the people using it. Buyers and sellers arrange everything between themselves, exactly as they did in the group chat — Whato just makes the listings findable. That means the usual care applies: meet somewhere public, inspect before you pay, and trust your judgement.

Who runs it

Whato is built and operated by Xion Thrive LLC. It’s a small operation, and reaching a human is easy — use the contact page and you’ll get a real reply.

How it stays free

Creating a marketplace and posting listings is free. Whato is supported by local businesses sponsoring individual neighbourhood boards — a roofer or a pizza shop paying to reach the neighbours who use that board. Sponsored placements are always labelled as such, and only one business per category appears on any board.
